Liberated or Oppressed ?

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatulahi wa Barakatu,

Warning! Another long post, but I promise I have something good to say. Insha'Allah.

By the way, sisters are welcome (and highly encouraged) to leave comments, positive advice and feedback to all of the sisters who are struggling in this dunya to free themselves from their puppet masters (Shaitan & their nafs).

“The West interprets veiling as repression of women and suppression of their sexuality. But when I traveled in Muslim countries and was invited to join a discussion in women-only settings within Muslim homes, I learned that Muslim attitudes toward women’s appearance and sexuality are not rooted in repression, but in a strong sense of public versus private, of what is due to God and what is due to one’s husband. It is not that Islam suppresses sexuality, but that it embodies a strongly developed sense of its appropriate channeling - toward marriage, the bonds that sustain family life, and the attachment that secures a home.”—Naomi Wolf  (American Author, a feminist)

So, I wanted to explore a word that is often misused by many people, mainly the media: 'OPPRESSED'. This word often describes Muslim women to be : treated unjustly, enslaved, powerless, without a voice, depressed, miserable, emotionally and physically abused.

Not only has the media gotten their vocabulary totally twisted, but sadly, so have many Muslimahs of today. Our beloved sisters have some how become brainwashed with the dictatorship of the media and have truly believed themselves to be oppressed Subhana'Allah!

Our very own Muslimahs have chosen to abandon their 'oppression' for the life of a liberated woman in the 21st Century. She has followed the masses of the media and left her Qur'an and Sunnah because THIS is what she believes is true liberation in a society like today's. Do these liberated women of today's society make us seem OPPRESSED? I've lived my life a game at a time prior to Islam, and here in my post are things that I witnessed and experienced with my own life. I know what the true meaning of OPPRESSION is, and it's not from being a Muslim.

To proceed,

The "LIBERATED" women of the 21st century are the very same women you see who are dressed like (excuse my honesty, but my eyes do not lie) someone who just finished their night shift at the Gentleman's clubChristina AguileraLady GaGa, Big Bird, the clown from the circus, the prostitute from the street corner, and sadly, a sex slave . Yes, these larger than life circus clowns are the symbols of LIBERATION!

In the Merriam-Webster dictionary the term LIBERATED is defined as this :
freed from or opposed to traditional social and sexual attitudes or roles.

So let us explore the women of today, and see if they are TRUELY LIBERATED as they all claim to be.

These leading ladies of today's liberation movement, are our very own mothers, daughters, and sisters. They apparently represent 'freedom'.

They feel that plastic surgery is the best way for them to express themselves, because their brains lack anything less than what's in their closets! These liberated women, are the mistresses of a married men because they aren't good enough to be the first wife. She is the "side job", and the "one stop shop" for men. She is unable to determine the seasons of the year, and thinks it's summer and Halloween all year-round, according to the way she dresses.

This liberated woman shows off her used goods as if it were new and never used. She's been around the block one too many times and the men all know her by her breast size  name. These women are liberated because they can't think for themselves, instead they need a talk show host, a singer, or a movie star to tell her how a woman should walk, talk, and act like. These women are so liberated that they look up to airbrushed, photo-shopped women in the pages of fashion magazines. These women are so liberated that they have no clue that these magazines are used only to pollute their minds with unattainable goals which they will NEVER reach.

The liberated woman of today, feels she is too fat and must constantly diet so that she can maintain her little mermaid figure. The liberated woman of today's society..is the very same woman who sells her body on film in the online world and in the homes of millions of televisions across the globe. This woman has a boyfriend or husband (and children) who allows her to have coitus relations with other men on-screen just to make some 'extra' cash, he feels proud of his wife who is an on-screen "whore". She is the woman who causes divorces and problems in many families, and the very same woman that husbands fantasize about and wish he had to himself. This liberated woman is the sex slave of society who has been brainwashed into stripping herself of her dignity, her modesty, and her pride. The liberated woman in today's society is the one who has to dress up her face and wear her costume every time she goes out only to look like a circus clown, but she is liberated, because the media says so.

The liberated woman of today, abandons modesty, self-respect, and intelligence. The liberated woman thinks that wearing slim fitting, curve hugging dresses and tank tops are the way to express her intelligence. True liberated women are the ones who need to dress up like a sideshow 'call girl' and intoxicate herself at the club so she can get all the men's attention. Liberated women have become commodities and accessories to men. The liberated woman of today are those very same ones who are easily disposable to men. The free woman is the one who thinks her voice counts, but her chest and tight clothes are worth more in the eyes of men.

The 21st Century 'free' woman of today are those very mothers, daughters, and sisters financing their life savings to pay for her breast augmentations and nose job JUST so she can look "beautiful" according to the media's standards. The liberation of women are the teens as young as 13 suffering from eating disorders because they want to look like the clowns on television. The liberation of women are those seen on billboards all around the city, dressed extremely promiscuous and posing in suggestive manners (your daughter must be proud of you! oh wait, she is the next billboard down the street.) These liberated women are puppets to their slavemasters who pay them a small wage to give up their true dignity, their self rights, and their true identity.

So, there you have it. The sex slaves  liberated woman of the 21st Century are these very same women who are our mothers, daughters, and sisters. ARE THESE THE VERY WOMEN YOU ARE LEAVING YOUR RELIGION FOR?

They complain about their husbands cheating on them with pornography, or the next door neighbor  but it's OK! Because she is liberated! She complains about her size 26 waist being too big  and her breasts too small, but that's OK...because she is liberated! She suffers from depression and drug abuse because she can't live up to society's pressure and standards, but it's OK, because she is liberated! She wonders why her boyfriend refers to her as "my b*tch" or "my hoe" to his friends, she figures, "oh it's because I'm LIBERATED!" She wonders why her boyfriend stares at other women lustfully when they go to the mall, or why he flirts with the waitress, then she remembers, "it is because I am empowered and a free woman!"

If Muslimah's of today are leaving their own pure, beautiful religion to become liberated like these women in today's society of the 21st century, then I will let you know, it will only take a matter of time before you return to Allah and when you do, you will be asked in your grave,  WHO WAS YOUR LORD? WHAT WAS YOUR RELIGION? WHO WAS YOUR PROPHET? WHAT DID YOU BELIEVE IN THIS DUNYA?

A Believer will answer : “Two angels come to him, make him sit up and ask him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He [the believing soul] will reply, ‘My Lord is Allah.’ They will then ask, ‘What is your religion?’ and he will reply, ‘My religion is Islam.’ They will ask, ‘Who is this man who was sent among you?’ and he will say, ‘He is the Messenger of Allah.’ They will then ask, ‘What was the source of your knowledge?’ and he will reply, ‘I have read Allah’s Book, believed in it, and declared it to be true.’”  (Sahih Bukhari, vol. 2, pp.257-258, no.456)

BUT how will YOU answer...

When the only thing you believed in, in this Dunya, were the very women who thought dressing like a go-go dancer was a status of liberation...

When you thought women who exposed all of her prized "goods" was who you strove to become because that's what true beauty is (according to the media)...

When you were a slave to Shaitan instead of Allah and falling into the temptations of your own desires...

When you obsessed over the women in the magazines, on the talk shows, and the television. When you worshiped TV idols and MUSIC idols...

When you thought "empowerment" was getting into groups and howling and prowling around town like hyenas trying to get men's attention...

When you worshiped money and you let it control you and dictate your life...

When you couldn't even educate yourself on self morals and humility and let Oprah Winfrey or some Egyptian celebrity dictate to you what morals and confidence is...

When you thought that immodesty is so "out of style"....

When you thought liberation and freedom was in the speeches of others rather than the Speech of Allah.
How will you answer, when all you can answer to is your puppet master.
When you gave up your modesty, your purity, your humility, your rights, your true womanhood, your family, your future, and your identity to be the "LIBERATED" woman of the 21st Century.

When you thought that liberation was in fact TRUE, RAW, OPPRESSION.

Tell me now dear sisters, who are the ones treated unjustly, enslaved, powerless, without a voice, depressedmiserable, emotionally and physically abused?

It's TIME TO WAKE UP
The hourglass has turned and the sand that is trickling will NOT slow down for you. If you think your idols are making you feel liberated then continue leading your life of lies, for when Allah takes your last breath (which can and will be any time He pleases), you will surely see the truth..but by then, it will be too late.

May Allah continue to guide us on His straight path until our last breath and may our last breath be "La ilaha ilAllah, Muhammad ur-rasoolullah" and may He open up our eyes and hearts to see that Islam is the cure for all diseases internally and externally and the life of this world is a mere delusion meant to take us astray. Ameen.

Here are some BEAUTIFUL reminders for us all to succeed in this life so that we can be successful in the eternal life.. Some times we all need a reality check to realise that what we are doing is against Allah's Commands and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallalahu aleyhi Wasselam and that this temporary life we live in is nothing but a mirage, what you see is all an illusion, once you feel like you've attained your worldly desires, it will disappear right before your eyes.

On the authority of Sahl bin Saad Al-Saedi, who said :
A man came to the prophet sallalahu aleyhi wasselem and said:
"O Messenger of Allah, direct me to an act which, if I do it, [will cause] Allah to love me and people to love me." He said: "Renounce (
Formally declare one's abandonment of (a claim, right, or possession))the world and Allah will love you, and renounce what people possess and people will love you." (a fine Hadith related by Ibn Majah and others with good chains of authorities)

On the authority of Abu Malik Al-Harith bin Asim Al-Ashari said that the messenger of Allah sallalahu aleyhi wasselam said:

"Purity is half of faith. alhamdu-lillah [Praise be to Allah] fills the scales, and subhana-Allah [How far is Allah from every imperfection] and alhamdu-lillah [Praise be to Allah] fill that which is between heaven and earth. Prayer is light; charity is a proof; patience is illumination; and the Quran is an argument for or against you. Everyone starts his day and is a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or bringing about its ruin." (Sahih-Muslim from An-Nawawi 40 aHadith #22)

On the authority of Abu Dharr Al-Ghafari, of the prophet sallalahu aleyhi wasselam is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord is that He said:

"O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.
O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you.
O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you.
O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you.
O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you.
O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and you will not attain benefiting Me so as to benefit Me.
O my servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to become as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything.
O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything.
O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decreases the sea if put into it.
O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good, praise Allah, and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself."
(Sahih- Muslim An-Nawawi 40 aHadith #23)

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said : the messenger of Allah sallalahu aleyhi wasselam said :
"Allah the Almighty is good and accepts only that which is good. Allah has commanded the faithful to do that which he commanded the messengers, and the Almighty has said: "O ye messengers ! Eat of the good things and do right". And Allah the Almighty has said : "O ye who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you"
Then he mentioned [the case of] a man who, having journeyed far, is dishevelled and dusty and who spreads out his hands to the sky [saying] : "O Lord! O Lord!" - while his food is unlawful, his drink unlawful, his clothing unlawful, and he is nourished unlawfully, so how can he be answered !"

( Sahih- Muslim an-Nawawi 40 aHadith #010 )

On the authority of Al-Nawwas bin Samaan, that the prophet sallalahu aleyhi wasselam said:"Righteousness is good morality, and wrongdoing is that which wavers in your soul and which you dislike people finding out about."
(Sahih-Muslim an-Nawawi 40 aHadith #26)

May Allah forgive me for anything that I've said that has offended you, anything good I've said is from Allah and anything bad is from my own self and I seek refuge in Allah from shaitan the accursed. Ameen!

There is a time and a place to dressed up and its not for all eyes to see! SubhanaAllah how people have it backwards. Your words are so inspiring in the post mashaAllah I would luv to see someone oppose to this! People need to wake up and smell the flowers: Islam is to protect the women and liberate them entirely! Subhan Allah sis, we must be having some freaky vibe going on these days!! I JUST did a post about the three questions in the grave and here you are also mentioning them!!! O_O

Other then that... "your daughter must be proud of you! oh wait, she is the next billboard down the street"!!

LOOOL!!! I really did laugh out loud at this! Masha Allah, I do enjoy your posts! <3

You know? This is why Muslims MUST consider the fallacy of this "freedom and liberation" of women thing the West is propagating.

Under the name of ‘freedom’ women are told that they have complete autonomy to do as they wish. BUT, ‘do as they wish’ means that they HAVE TO conform to the trends and fashions that are set for them and imposed upon them by the media and the multi-billion dollar fashion and film industry.

And if dictating what you should wear and how you should look isn't enough, they also tell you what your principles, morals and conduct should be too. That is the part I particularly hate.

Ameen to your dua at the end. May Allah guide us and save us from such foolishness.

  7. Assalamualaikum warahmatullah..

Beautiful post. Again. I would like to quote what I wrote on my blog a year ago.

"They say it’s a waste and stupid for muslim women to cover their beauty. Is that so? Does showing your hair symbolises your intellect? Does showing your bosom makes you feel pretty? Does wearing shorts makes you superior? No for all of that. There are many muslimah who cover themselves and excel in their career. We have doctors, we have lawyers, we have teachers. Are you denying their intellectual? Are you calling them stupid? Clothings are nothing. It does not imply one’s intellectual! It’s your beauty, something that Allah has given you and only for you. It’s what makes you unique from others. Why do you want to share it with the rest of the world? Why do you want to show something that sets you apart from others? Is your beauty that cheap? My beauty came with a price, only my mahram can see them. I would not allow others to see the uniquenss Allah has given me."

The thing with these westerners, they heard the "oppressed stories" from muslimah who does not know how to differentiate between Islam and Culture. The one that oppresses the women are their culture, not the deen. They never try to ask the opinion of practicing muslimah. All I can say to these people who keeps on saying that the hijab and veil is oppression, "Give it a shot. Grab an abaya, a khimar, cover your feet with socks. Only show your face and hands. Try it for a day. You can feel the freedom."

May Allah guide us all. :)

  9. By no one's definition are sex slaves liberated! That's why they are called slaves. Women can be liberated in different ways. Some women find liberation fully covering, some say they are liberated by doing the opposite. I cannot make judgments on either side, because I'm not Muslim (though I did cover my hair for awhile), and I've never been and never will be the type of woman to show my body off. It is mine, and my choice on who I want to see it. When I covered, I did not feel subjugated at all, but I realize that that path is not for everyone. I now find liberation in dressing how I feel comfortable, which is long skirts or pants, and short sleeves or, usually, long sleeves, and looking feminine. I think your message is good. As a feminist I try to educate other feminists that covering doesn't subjugate a woman. If she chooses to cover, then that is her CHOICE, and her liberation!
